30 August 2016 — Upon the request of the Philippine Embassy in Dili, Mr. Lars Siefert, Head of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) in Timor-Leste, gave a security briefing for the leaders and sectoral representatives of the Filipino community in Timor-Leste last August 25.
During his presentation, Mr. Siefert shared the UNDSS’ assessment on the current security environment in Timor-Leste. While underscoring the fact that the country is relatively peaceful and stable, he urged the Filipinos present not to be complacent about their personal safety and security. He encouraged them to be vigilant at all times.
The Embassy also invited Dr. Maria Clarissa S. Glorioso, a visiting Filipino doctor who specializes in occupational medicine, to share some practical tips on first aid and emergency procedures to be observed during earthquakes.
Speaking on behalf of the Filipinos present, Philippine Ambassador to Timor-Leste Evelyn D. Austria-Garcia conveyed her appreciation to Mr. Siefert and Dr. Glorioso for sharing their time and expertise. She requested the community leaders to echo the information they learned to their fellow Filipinos.
The Embassy plans to roll out similar awareness and information campaigns for the Filipino community in the near future. END
