09 June 2019, Dili, Timor-Leste – The members of the Filipino community in Timor-Leste, Timorese guests and members of the diplomatic corps attended the Philippine Cultural Night Celebration at Salao Cathedral in Dili in the evening of 09 June 2019.
Filipino dances and musical performances were showcased in the said event, which was organized by the Association of Filipinos in East Timor (AFET) in coordination with the Philippine Embassy.
The said cultural show portrayed the life of “Juan Dela Cruz” though a series of performances about traditional songs, language and arts, folk dances, beliefs and traditions, and the Filipino way of life.
The diversity and richness of Filipino culture was exemplified throughout the show which featured distinct Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao culture.
Ambassador Muin, in his opening remarks, attested that songs and dances indeed play a central role in the daily life of Filipinos.
mong the dances performed were: Jota quirino of Quezon province, salidumay of the Igorot tribe, gaway-gaway of Visayas and a modern dance with the tune of Kanta Pilipinas sung by Ms. Lea Salonga.
The program was concluded by renditions of Mamang sorbertero, ili-ili tulog anay and ugoy ng duyan.
The Philippine Embassy thanks AFET and the Filipino community in Dili for making this celebration successful and meaningful.
