The Philippine Embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste marked the 125th Anniversary of Philippine Independence with a series of celebrations on 11 and 12 June 2023. With the theme "Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan" (Freedom, Future, History), the festivities were held to honor the country's struggle for independence, celebrate its achievements, and promote a positive outlook on its future.
On 11 June 2023, a flag-raising ceremony was held at the Philippine Embassy grounds with members of the Filipino Community and foreign guests present.
Following the flag-raising ceremony, Ambassador Belinda M. Ante gave an inspirational message to the members of the Filipino community. Afterwards, volunteers from Filipino-owned international schools in Dili performed several dance and song numbers. The performances showcased the rich diversity of Filipino culture, with performers dressed in traditional attire and traditional dances and music.
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to select members of the Filipino Community for their contributions to the event program, followed by a raffle draw. Community members also brought food to the event, showcasing the rich culture of giving among Filipinos and its diverse cuisine. The event concluded with a sumptuous Filipino breakfast for all attendees.
On June 12, 2023, the Philippine Embassy hosted a diplomatic reception at City 8 in Manleuana, which was attended by Timor-Leste government officials and the Diplomatic Corps in Dili.
During the reception, Ambassador Ante delivered her message, paying tribute to the Philippines’ heritage and forebears.
The reception served as an opportunity to celebrate this historic milestone with government and diplomatic stakeholders, and to reaffirm the Philippines’ commitment to bilateral cooperation with Timor-Leste and to regional peace and stability. //END
