The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Dili informs the Filipino Community in Timor-Leste that, in compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and international regulations, all Philippine Foreign Service Posts will no longer be allowed to extend the validity of Philippine passports.

Please note that extension of passport validity is different from passport renewal. In passport renewal, a new passport will be printed with a validity of ten years. The current passport will be cancelled upon the release/claiming of the new passport.

On the other hand, passport extension entails using the same passport by manually extending its validity for one to two years and was allowed in certain special cases only. This is what is no longer allowed by ICAO.

Philippine passport holders with urgent travel to the Philippines but whose passports are expiring and are unable to wait for their new passports is advised to apply for renewal at the Embassy and request for transfer of release to the DFA-Aseana.

To avoid problems and inconvenience, Filipinos are strongly advised to file their application for passport renewal at least one year before the expiration date
