The Philippine Embassy in Dili, upon invitation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, participated in the just-concluded annual celebration of International Women’s Day in Timor-Leste, in proper observance of International Women’s Month. The affair was held last Friday, 06 March 2020, in the Municipal District of Gleno, Ermera, which is more than one hour land travel from capital, Dili, under the auspices of the Secretary of State for Equality and Inclusion (SEEI) of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

As participating organization based in Dili, the Embassy had provided the set up stall with Philippine traditional foods and products displayed at the venue. The native foods and delicacies on display were enjoyed and loved by many attendees. Likewise, the displayed piña barong belonging to H.E. Ambassador Abdulmaid K. Muin have earned the admiration and amazement of many of the attendees especially when told that the “Barong outfits” on display are made from piña materials and products of hand-weaving Philippine Women. A song number in the Tagalog vernacular was also rendered by Kier Calvin B. Hernandez, the primary-level dependent-child of Consular Officer, Ms. April Esmeralda B. Hernandez.

The occasion has been declared as a success as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, H.E. Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares, the Secretary of State for Equality and Inclusion (SEEI), Ms. Maria Jose Da Fonseca M. De Jesus, and the President of Municipal Authority of Ermera, Mr. Jose Martinho Dos Santos Soares, thanked all who participated in the event during the closing remarks. END
